Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
COTRAVETD works to promote human rights for transgender women in the Dominican Republic.
Every month, the female transgender community in Santo Domingo meets at the COTRAVETD headquarters to discuss various topics, including HIV prevention, treatment adherence, body issues, gender identity, romantic relationships and how to deal with everyday situations in which family, social and community rejection can happen.
The organization also has a team of transgender health outreach workers who distribute HIV prevention materials, visit people with HIV in their homes and accompany people with HIV to medical and legal appointments.
COTRAVETD is currently engaged in advocacy to improve a draft Gender Identity Law in the Dominican Republic.
