Zimbabwe Dismisses UN Agency's Life Expectancy Projection

The Ministry of Health and Child Welfare of Zimbabwe dismissed a UN agency's life expectancy projection as the "worst possible scenario" reached only in the absence of any interventions. The UN Children's Fund Progress Report on Zimbabwe for 2000 predicted Zimbabwe's life expectancy will drop to 27 years in the next 10 years as a result of HIV/AIDS. "These figures are a bit of exaggeration and need to take into context the intervention measures," said Deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare David Parirenyatwa.
