The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) on Monday halted sales of two brands of condoms -- "Evolution" and "Hot" -- after testing revealed holes in them. "The two brands of condoms have been withdrawn for failing to meet the critical electrical freedom from holes test," said bureau spokesperson Dingase Makumba. He said a consignment of 59 cartons of "Hot" condoms and 59 cartons of "Evolution" condoms failed to meet ZABS requirements. "Consumers should be alert each time they are buying the products, and the testing that we did was in our continued effort to ensure that substandard and unsafe products were kept out of customers' hands," Makumba said. The tests were performed during the past two weeks on the condoms, which were manufactured by a firm based in the United Kingdom.
