Triumeq and Prezcobix First-Line Regimen

Question

I have not started taking meds yet. I have an emtricitabine-resistant strain. My doctor prescribed Triumeq and Prezcobix. Is it unusual that my regimen will consist of a fixed-dose combination drug in addition to a protease inhibitor? Thank you.

Answer

Hello and thanks for posting.

Yes, it's a bit unusual to include a three drug fixed-dose combination with a boosted PI for initial therapy, particularly with the M184V resistance mutation. Not a terrible thing this regimen, but with recent early phase revelations about the potency of two drug regimens with dolutegravir (part of Triumeq) for both initial and maintenance therapy, once you're virologically suppressed, one could consider a later simplification to Triumeq alone.

Hope that's helpful, BY
