Telling My Mother I'm HIV Positive (Video)

Shortly after being diagnosed HIV positive, I disclosed my new HIV status to my mother. Luckily I got the reaction I needed which was that of a supportive parent.

Throughout my journey of coming to terms with my new status, she was there to comfort me through bad fevers and hospital visits. When I would get rejected by men due to my status, she was there to lend an ear and cry with me. What I'm trying to say is, the unconditional love and support I got from my mother was essential to coping with the disease. It gave me the strength to let people know I was still a human being, regardless of my status.

I hope in sharing this video with you, it will encourage a healthy communication with your parents that will hopefully lead to the support you may need. GOOD LUCK!
