SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS

Question

What's the frequence in patients with hiv infection of pityriasis versicolor, pityrosporum folliculitis and seborrheic dermatitis? It's also common to see these skin lesions during phi or early stages of hiv desease?

Answer

Those fungal infections and seborrheic dermatitis are seen in the general population. Folliculitis seems more common in HIV infected persons. In my experience none of those conditions are very helpful in identifying recent HIV infection though they can be a tip-off to established infection. KH
