Dear Dr. Bob, I broke up with my ex-boyfriend in April, and just found out that he had quite a few sexual relationships during our relationship. Not very nice, isn't it? I had a regular woman care check in October, and all the test results are fine (including sexually transmitted diseases test). During our period together, we didn't use condoms (shouldn't have done that). I am just concerned: in a regular ob/gyn check, when the doctor take samples testing for sexually transmitted diseases, is HIV also included in the detecting range? Thank you very much!
A routine STD screen certainly should include HIV-antibody testing; however, there is no guarantee it was actually performed. I would suggest you contact the doctor who performed your "regular woman care check" and ask exactly what tests were done.
