Hi, Ive been sharing a house with someone I just found out is HIV positive. We have used the same towels and bed sheets (washed on cold wash between use), yoga mat and some cosmetics. 2 weeks after moving in, I started getting flu like symptoms; nausea, sore throat, generally feeling very tired. I also had swollen gums (which Ive never had before). I am aware that these are symptoms of primary infection so wondered if i need a test? Please answer as I cant stop thinking about it.
There is absolutely no risk of getting HIV from merely living with someone.
Are you having condomless sex with this person? Are you sharing needles during drug use? Have there been any incidents with a lot of blood coming out of that person and making their way inside of your body right after leaving theirs?? Someone like these situations MUST happen for there to be risk.
If this is a fear that you're just not able to shake, there might be something else going on with your ability to handle out of control thoughts.. A counselor would be a good person to help with that.
Hope this helps,
