New York: Rosie Perez, AIDS Activist, Reaches Out to Community

The public is invited to a free event, "An Evening of REAL Conversation with Rosie Perez," sponsored by the Syracuse Model Neighborhood Facility/FACES (Fighting AIDS/HIV through Case Management, Education and Support), Sept. 29 at the Southwest Community Center. Perez -- an actress, an AIDS activist for some 25 years, and a member of the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS -- was chosen because "We think Rosie can reach out to the community and bring the people in who will listen and want to learn how to become a person of change in their community," said H. Bernard Alex, director of Health Services/FACES. "The evening is designed to create a dialogue within the community of color regarding personal responsibility for one's sexual health." The event begins at 7 p.m. at 401 South Ave., Syracuse. For more information, telephone 315-671-5834.
