I take a 4th generation hiv test at the 28 days after my risk. In the fifht week I feel like I have some syntoms of a acute hiv infection, I have headache and lile fever. It's possible have syntoms and have a negative result?. At this point how accurate is my test?. Wich is the period window for a 4th generation test?. I'm so scared. By the way my risk was to have protected sex with a prostitute. Thanks for your precious time.
A couple things here to know. First regarding testing: The testing guidelines for HIV are to be initially tested at 3 weeks post exposure and then again at 90 days. As long as there are no other exposures happened during this time frame than the results are conclusive. At 28 days it's good to have a negative result but your conclusive result will be at 90 days.
Having symptoms can be from anything. There are other sexually transmitted infections out there that are much easier to get. I would recommend that you follow up with your health care professional for evaluation.
Lastly, we know that condoms give adequate protection against HIV.
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
