Do most LTD plans offered by employers have pre-existing condition exclusions? What are generally the terms of the exclusions? I have read that most plans exclude or reduce disability benefits "for any illness or injury for which an employee received medical treatment or consultation within a specified time period before becoming covered under the plan". Is this still true of most LTD policies or has there been some change? Also, what is generally the time period (a range would be fine given how policies vary).

Most LTD policies have a pre-existing condition clause that excludes coverage for a disability that occurs during the first 12 months of coverage if it is related to an illness the employee saw a doctor for, took medication for or revceived any treatment for in the 3 months prior to the effective date of the coverage.
