I just got blood drawn at a lab and I noticed that the tech touched surfaces and then touched the gauze and put it on my needle site. I then freaked out and wondered if she touched the sharps container when disposing of the needle. I'm going crazy. Please help.
HIV is not transmitted this way. Any virus present on the sharps container would be unable to infect you. The virus does not live well outside of the body. Also, it needs direct access to the bloodstream before transmission can occur. The kind of direct access that occurs during unprotected anal or vagina sex. This was a NO RISK situation.
