Hey "Dr. Spongebob" -
First, if, God forbid, you should ever find yourself single again, I'm hereby putting you and everyone else on notice: I have first dibs on you!
Second, and on a more serious note, I'm looking for a total health spa/retreat for my wonderful boyfriend. He's 48, almost as cute as you, HIV+ and doing well but has fatigue, lipoatrophy, and general health worries and issues common to most long-term HIVsters. He doesn't do drugs (except his meds), almost no drinking, but he is a light smoker.
We were talking the other day about whether or not there is a resort/spa for HIV+ people who want to go get totally pampered, drain all the toxins from their bodies, get help with new diet and exercise regimens, find out about new therapies, and just generally rejuvenate and give that constant fatigue a good kick in the butt! Kind of like checing in to the Betty Ford Clinic without having an addiction, if you know what I mean. But it's gotta be a place that specializes in HIVers (preferably) or one that is very HIV savvy and gay friendly.
Being the wonderful guy I am, I'd absolutely love to give him a trip to such a place as a Christmas or birthday present. He deserves it. Heck, maybe we'd both go. I know he would love it and benefit from it.
Do you know of any place like that? The closer to Dallas the better, but location ain't really a big factor.
P.S. - I know that me having a boyfriend kinda messes up the whole dibs thing, but we can just keep it our little secret for now. ;)
Gosh, so many folks looking for lovers and here I have one on standby?!? How lucky can one guy get?
Your request for an HIV-savvy, gay resort health spa just gave me an excellent idea for a new business venture the Dr. Sponge Bob Spa and Pleasure Resort. But I'd have to give up answering questions here and lots of my other activities to pamper and revitalize the resort guests, while massaging and "sponging" all their cares away. Kicking constant fatigue in the butt would be a pleasure, considering it's been biting us in the ass for years. OK, I'll give it some thought. Until then, here are a couple of suggestions. Palm Springs has a variety of upscale gay resorts where you can be pampered. Combine this with some trips to the day spas (many are both gay and HIV friendly) and perhaps one of the many HIV community educational forums. I've given talks there about fatigue as well as a variety of other topics new therapies, immune-based therapies, sex, etc.
Another option would be to consider a cruise. There are gay cruises that have a party atmosphere, if that's what you are looking for. But in addition, there are some luxury cruise lines that have organized gay groups onboard for selected sailings. These adventures would involve a financial splurge, but the pampering is phenomenal. One such cruise line is Crystal Cruises. No, I don't get a kickback, but I have cruised with them on multiple occasions.
Hope that helps.
