Jet lag, surgery, and the immune system

Question

I have to have a second round of shoulder surgery this summer on the second day after traveling internationally. Will jet lag affect my recovery from surgery so soon after my return? Or do I need to wait for the jet lag to subside before having the surgery? Is it dangerous? Does jet lag affect the immune system? Been pos for 30 years, stable on meds, with high t-cell count, though recently had a temporary low-level viral blip. Thanks!

Answer

Hello and thanks for posting.

While jet lag isn't much fun and can marginally add to stress (trust me, I spend way too much of my time jet lagged), there's no reason why this should affect your surgical outcomes. No need to postpone otherwise indicated surgery on your shoulder.

Be well, and here's to hoping your shoulder recovers quickly and fully. BY
