HSV1 & HSV2

Question

Hi,I am disgnosed with HSV1 & HSV2 thru a blood test culture. I did had protection on, but still got them. I think thru kissing. I would like to know whether would the 2 type of virus exchange genetic materials and become a new super herpes virus? What are the things I should know and take precaution? tks and best regards.

Answer

These are 2 different strains of Herpes simplex virus. Co-infection with both strains is not uncommon. They do not exchange genetic information. You can pass these viruses to others when you have an active lesion on or around your mouth or genitals. Treatment is available that can help to control the duration and severity of the synptoms if you have an acute episode.
