Hello and thanks for posting.
HIV is a virus; untreated HIV infection causes AIDS. Syphilis is the disease caused by infection with the bacteria called Treponema palllidum. They are not the same.
Syphilis is entirely treatable and curable with antibiotics.
Syphilis does not cause HIV, though people living with HIV are at greater risk of having untreated syphilis progress to more serious illness.
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection. The best way to prevent syphilis is to use a condom during sex (including, ahem, oral), and while HIV medications can stop HIV transmission, they do nothing to stop syphilis, gonorrhea or chlamydia.
I hope that's relaxing, and helpful.
