My father has hepatitis C for 10 years. His ALT is 100 and age 71. Now his lymphocytes has reduced to 10%. Why his lymphocytes has been reduced. Should he test HIV.
Regards, Muhammad Shoaib
Actually in HIV infection, the lymphocyte fraction is usually increased when looking at a differential white blood cell count. His hepatitis C may not have been diagnosed until 10 years ago, but he may have had the infection long before then since it is often asymptomatic (without symptoms). You should discuss the full differential with his physician if you are concerned to know what other cells are making up the rest of the profile.
