If a person gets a cold (scratchy throat, stuffy nose, slight headache)can that person develop swollen glands not only in the neck area but throughout the body,or must the swollen glands be caused by a more serious infection?
Typically lymph nodes swell near the site of the infection, which they are draining. So that, mouth infections tend to cause neck nodes, toe infections cause groin nodes, and hand infections causes armpit nodes. If there is generalized lymph node swelling, then that is usually the sign of a systemic infection throughout the body. I don't agree with your statement, however "serious infection". Sometime minor infections can cause generalized swelling.
