I'm so scared. My ALT numbers came back around 104 (one hundred and four), and it says acceptable levels are inbetween 30 and 70.
I have been taking EFV/TDF/3TC for 10 months. My options are switching to Kaletra which I'm so scared of as well or waiting maybe 4-5 months for dolutegravir in Brazil...which scares me too.
How bad is that, doctor? Would let a patient of yours wait 4 months?
Am I presenting a rare efavirenz-induced liver toxicity?
Efavirenz can cause an increase in liver enzymes but many other conditions can also result in liver enzyme abnormalities (common causes include fatty liver, alcohol use, viral hepatitis). That degree of liver enzyme increase is modest and not usually of immediate clinical significance. Recommend discussing with your HIV provider who likely will provide reassurance to you. KH
