early symptoms

Question

If a child was to contract hiv either in utero or breast feeding, what would be some of the early symptoms that one would see, other than failure to thrive?

Answer

Some of the earliest signs and symptoms of HIV infection in infants in addition to failure to thrive include, persistent yeast infection in the mouth[thrush], pneumonia which is difficult to treat, and swollen lymph glands. In the developing world tuberculosis may also be an early indication of HIV infection in infants. John L. Sullivan, M.D.
