Hello, I just moved to Netherlands from Ukraine, to work here. I used to get my medications at the local hiv center in Ukraine. Now i need to get an insurance here, and some way of receiving medications, since i can't travel back and fourth to Ukraine for medication, nor can I bring enough to last for a year. Are there any issues with getting an insurance plan that allows me to receive medications for hiv?
Both The Netherlands and Ukraine are in the European Union so I assume you are residing there legally. The Netherlands is one of the more intelligent providers of health care.
You should go to your neighborhood General Practitioner, and tell him/her your history. You will be referred to an HIV specialist who will do the necessary lab tests and send you to the local pharmacy for your medications.
Everyone in The Netherlands must have health insurance. Everyone is eligible regardless of health and the costs are reasonable, at least compared to here in the U.S. Either the GP or the specialist will direct you on how to get the insurance, but it is my understanding they do not wait for it to start your treatment.
