Does My Doctor Need to Know I'm Gay? #AskTheHIVDoc Responds

Associate Editor

In the first episode of the new #AskTheHIVDoc series from Greater Than AIDS on YouTube, David Malebranche, M.D., of Emory University's School of Medicine, discusses the importance of being open about your sexuality with your doctor. Malebranche lists the benefits of your health care provider knowing about your sexuality and sex practices.

"Your provider does need to know that you may have sex with other men," Malebranche explains. "The most important part about that is that there are certain diseases and conditions, sexually transmitted infections as well as general health care maintenance that is important for you to get as a man who has sex with other men."

Are you out with your doctor? What do you think of Malebranche's advice?
