How common is it for women to have a chronic(6 months)yeast infection of the mouth? The infection is both hard and soft palate and has been treated, without success, on two occasions by the drug Diflucan. What would you do next? could this be HIV related?
The next step would be to try a higher dose of fluconazole (Diflucan) or another drug that can be used topically (Nystatin, Mycelex) or by mouth (itraconazole). If the candidiasis persists after that, it could be tested for drug resistance. This could be HIV-related, and the only way you'll know is to get tested. Good luck!
