Eleven young Peel residents have created a new video that aims to destigmatize HIV testing among sexually active youth, especially immigrants from high-prevalence countries. The 12-minute video, "Make It the Craze: Get Tested," was made possible with funding by the Public Health Agency of Canada through the AIDS Community Action Program. The Peel HIV/AIDS Network on Wednesday held a premiere screening of the video at the Living Arts Center, where the audience could speak with the producers and performers. "With HIV infection continuing to be an issue with newcomers in the region, it's imperative to address the stigma associated with getting tested," said Tania Fernandes, a PHAN board member. About 500 copies of the video will be distributed to community agencies, and it will also be available at the network's office, Unit 1, 160 Trader's Blvd., Mississauga.
