Dear Mrs. Southall:
I am freaking out after donating blood. I did not donate for an HIV test, but I recently developed thrush. And of course, there is way too much stuff online about HIV and thrush. How long would it take for a blood bank to notify someone if there was something wrong with donated blood?
Hi The first thing to remember or know is that thrush can happen with or without HIV. If you are on antibiotics, stressed etc it can happen. The blood bank will send you a letter stating you need to see your health care provider within a couple of weeks from donating blood if they see anything that needs to be followed up. If you are really concerned about this you can find a local HIV service agency to receive testing or you can purchase the home test kit.
Be well and stay safe, Shannon
