I'm an adult male, HIV+ for two years, on meds for 18 months, and undectectable for about 17 months. Shortly after diagnosis, I was treated for anal warts (Aldera) and the two warts disappeared. Since then, I've had a colonoscopy and was told there were no internal warts. I've just become sexually active again and am always practicing safe sex (I usually the bottom for anal sex). I have looked all over the internet for an answer to this question and can't find one. Please answer as I'm losing sleep over this:
My understanding is that anal warts (from HPV) are extremely contagious from skin to skin contact and that condoms are not completely effective. If I were to develop another wart and not be aware of it and, as a result of skin-to-skin contact, warts were transmitted to my partner, could that transmission also carry HIV? Simply put, can the HIV virus be transmitted with a wart? I realize there is no exchange of fluids (blood or semen) in skin-to-skin contact, but I guess I'm wondering if a wart can act as a reservoir for the virus.
Sorry if it's a stupid question, but above all, I have no desire to be responsible for infecting someone else.
HIV and HPV (warts) are transmitted separately. A wart cannot act as a reservoir for HIV. HIV is not transmitted via skin-to-skin contact the way HPV is.
Hope that helps clarify things.
