AIDS, HIV, STD Help Now Just a Text, Click or Call Away
The New Jersey Medical School based in Newark, N.J., has recently expanded the school's AIDS/HIV/STD hotline to include texting and live chat capabilities, as well as calling in for confidential medical advice and information with a nurse, doctor, or pharmacist regarding AIDS, HIV, or STDs. Services offered through the three hotline options include referrals to testing sites and counseling, information about treatment options, drug interactions and side effects, partner notifications, and prevention education about HIV/AIDS and STDs. The hotline options are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. According to data collected by the State Department of Health in June 2012, more than 36,000 individuals in New Jersey have been diagnosed with HIV or AIDS, and thousands more are diagnosed with other STDs each year.
