It's rather difficult to define first-, second- and "third-generation" medications for HIV. But to provide a crude summary, the answer is yes.
There are new drug targets that are actively being explored-- HIV integrase (integrase inhibitors), HIV co-receptors (CCR5 inhibitors), maturation inhibitors and lest we forget, therapeutic vaccines. We also have the first of a new generation of HIV protease inhibitors, with tipranavir (and others in the pipeline).
It certainly looks at this time that CCR5 entry inhibitors may very likely be the next class of medications.
