Jerry H. Hooten, Water, 1998
"Water," 1998
Jerry H. Hooten
monoprint, 11" x 8"

From the artist: "Much of my work features male nudes," says Hooten. "For many of my prints, including this one, I work from photographs of models and then sketches in order to capture simple gestures. In this piece I was trying to capture the innocence and purity of ablution in the natural environment."

Why we chose this piece: This bold piece emphasizes the cleansing nature of water and how it can metaphorically wash away the feelings of shame and regret that many HIVers struggle with.
