Joyce McDonald, Being Delivered, 1999
"Being Delivered," 1999
Joyce McDonald
terra cotta, cloth and paint, 6" x 12"

From the artist: "Every piece of mine tells a direct story, event or emotion in my life," McDonald says. "The day I created this piece I had just received an AIDS diagnosis. When I got home I fell to the floor, lying in a fetal position. A surge of fear and the thoughts of enduring overwhelmed my soul. Then God let me know he would take care of me."

Why we chose this piece: We connected with the deep, searing pain that is immediately apparent in the subject of this piece, a pain each of us has faced at some point during our personal battles.
