The numbers are in and STRIKE II, the third annual Visual AIDS Vanguard Award ceremony and spring benefit broke records in fundraising, attendance and artists' participation! A resounding success on all fronts, we raised over $68,000, which will directly support our ongoing work utilizing the visual arts to keep an emphasis on the AIDS pandemic, as well as offer direct services to artists living with HIV/AIDS.
This year, Visual AIDS was thrilled to recognized artists Yoko Ono (who received the Visual AIDS Vanguard Award) and Tony Feher (who received the Bill Olander Visual AIDS Vanguard Award). Both artists and AIDS activists in their own right, they were the perfect recipients for the awards due to their commitment to HIV/AIDS advocacy, education, prevention, and their support of artists with HIV/AIDS.
We offer special thanks to presenters Jeffrey Deitch and Joy Episalla for their touching introductions to both honorees, our Co-Chairs Anthony Meier Fine Arts, Cassie Rosenthal, Jack Shainman and Pavel Zoubok, as well as this year's Benefit Committee for their support of this event and promoting ticket/lane sales. In addition, we would like to thank DJ Little Jukka (Nayland Blake) for keeping the party rocking, Aaron Cobbett and Bilen Mesfin for event photography, and all our volunteers. Lastly, we offer our gratitude to presenting sponsor 300 New York and sponsors: Wine & Spirits magazine, X-ING Design, and Charles Samples of Peeq Media.
On behalf of the Visual AIDS Board of Directors, staff, and the community we serve, a heartfelt THANK YOU for your continued support!
