ArtWorks for AIDS

"Aids - Baby - Africa" -- Penelope Siopis
"I bound a baby in an Aids ribbon and took a photograph. I wanted the ribbon to seem both threatening and containing. The baby is both mummy and new-born, cold and warm, dead and alive. A generic baby. She/he may thus provoke more general questions about Aids. But my interest is in Africa and how the “universal” sign of Aids awareness -- the red ribbon -- can be empty rhetoric if action is missing."
