Visual AIDS Artist Member News

POZ magazine recently commissioned original works of art from four Visual AIDS artists. The artworks of Joe De Hoyos, Rebecca Guberman-Bloom, Sunil Gupta and Bryan Hoffman were featured in the December 2004 issue of POZ, along with profiles of each artist.

Peter Madero, in association with MNN Manhattan Neighborhood Network, presents, a half-hour Arts and Leisure program that airs weekly on Channel 67. Artists interested in being interviewed should contact Peter Madero through

Richard Renaldi is interviewed by Stevie St. John and featured in the November issue of A&U.

East Village USA Curator Dan Cameron interviews James Romberger and Marguerite Van Cook on Thursday, February 17 from 6:30-8pm on In the East Village in the 1980s, James Romberger and Marguerite Van Cook's innovative gallery "Ground Zero" featured installations by some of the major figures of the scene. They are also currently preparing a second edition of their critically acclaimed graphic novel collaboration with David Wojnarowicz, "Seven Miles a Second."

Vincent Cianni

Vincent Cianni's "We Skate Hardcore" has been selected by the Association of American University Presses for THE BEST OVERALL BOOK DESIGN for its annual book design award competition from more than 250 entries in the competition. Cianni will be signing books at the Intuition Skate Shop on March 26 in Bakersfield, Calif. Books are available from NYU Press:

Luna Luis Ortiz

Luna Luis Ortiz was selected as one of the spokepersons for the recently launched NYC HIV Stops With Me campaign. His work and bio is featured on:

Albert Winn's photographs and essay "Summer Joins the Past" were published in the Jewish Quarterly Review, Center for Advanced Judaic Studies of The University of Pennsylvania, Fall 2004. His summer camp images were also featured in Zyzzya, the Fall 2004 issue. The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston purchased work for their permanent collection.

Chet Holcomb is restoring and transforming the Tunnel United Methodist Church in Tunnel, NY (upstate 20 minutes from Binghamton, 3 hours from NYC) into to the Studio Café, a structure accommodating an internet accessible art space/café that shares common area with an art studio/residence complete with visiting guest artist quarters and permanent art collection. The church was deconsecrated in 1997, the Café should be fully operational by Summer 2005.

Peter Urban, 'Fay Wray'

Peter Urban's portrait of Fay Wray was published in The Boston Globe with a farewell tribute to her.

Barton Lidice Benes

Barton Lidice Benes is interviewed by Sam Knight in the February 6 issue of the New York Times. The article "I Am My Own Curator" discusses his artwork, collections and the plans to have his home reconstructed in the Dakota Museum of Art in Grand Forks.

Sunil Gupta was included in a jury of accomplished artists, architects and landscape architects who selected five exceptional entries for the National AIDS Memorial design competition. The National AIDS Memorial Design Competition was created to identify a potential new memorial feature that could deepen both the visual and spiritual impact of the National AIDS Memorial and yet complement the natural beauty of the memorial's Golden Gate Park location.
