Artist-in-Residence Workspace Grant
The Center for Book Arts, NY

Deadline: October 1, 2005

The Center for Book Arts is pleased to continue the Artist-in-Residence Workspace Grant for the New York Emerging Artists program in 2006. Up to four New York-based emerging artists will be offered space, time and support to explore the production and exhibition of artist's books and related work in two-to-four month residencies. The purpose of this program is to promote experimentation in making book art, thus artists from all disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The Center especially encourages applications from artists of culturally diverse backgrounds.

The award includes individual studio space, a $500 cash stipend, use of the Center's printing and binding facilities, a materials budget, and an opening reception and presentation of the artist's work in one of our gallery cases as a Featured Artist. Other possible opportunities to present work to the public include a lecture or performance as part of the Center's special events calendar.

Artists receive a tuition waiver for workshops during the residency, planned in conjunction with the staff. Experienced printers and bookbinders will be available to advise the artists on issues of materials and techniques as they arise. We have learned through past residents that ten hours per week of studio work is common in order to realize their artistic goals. There is no application fee. For details and an application forms visit: www.centerforbookarts.org/newsite/opportunities/ or contact info@centerforbookarts.org, 212-481-0295.
