Summertime at Visual AIDS

Summertime at Visual AIDS

In June, A Big Hairy Deal Benefit raised over $3,500 for Visual AIDS programs. We thank our supporters in the beauty and music industries for making this event possible and all the guests for coming out and supporting Visual AIDS. For more info and event photos visit: www.thebody.com/visualaids/current/hairy_deal2004.html.

During July, Visual AIDS distributed over $8,000 in Materials Grants to 28 artists. With the help of our summer interns and volunteers, we have processed and labeled over 1,000 slides, and added 15 new archive members in the last six months. We also purchased a new Epson Scanner to scan slides and artwork. The Archive Project has been used this summer by web curators and researchers, including Brian Clamp, Clamp Art; Photios Giovanis, PPOW; Ted Bonin, Alexander and Bonin; Grady Turner, independent curator; Richard Sawdon Smith, artist and PhD researcher; and Jorge Rodriguez, Artehoy Foundation.

E-cards

August brings in a new set of e-cards to be launched in collaboration with Art Action AIDS. Also this summer, Visual AIDS and Roche Laboratories have produced a set of Share Your Vision posters to be distributed to AIDS organizations and doctors' offices. Looking ahead, Visual AIDS is currently planning the next Postcards from the Edge benefit and scheduling for Fall/Winter programs.
