Derek Jackson Derek Jacksoncurated the exhibit Overhead Underground: Reimaginiing the Faerie Landscape. He states "Faeries are notorious shape-shifters, tricksters, and seducers. Like Pan, they can bring sexy play, or panic; in the guise of Shakespeare's magician-kings Oberon and Prospero, they might be imperious, or like the antic minions Puck and Ariel, bring entertainment in the form of malicious-yet-helpful artifice. The genii of particular streams, rocks, and trees, faeries can flick into other forms to tease the mortals who stumble past them: Ovidian metamorphoses are their specialty. And, of course, a faerie is a man who is a queen, whose gaiety is erotic, social, private and polymorphous. The Faeries -- a group of sculptures, photographs, paintings, and drawings installed in the landscape of Le Petit Versailles Garden for the month of June -- partake of all these fantasies." Artists in the exhibit include Al Baltrop, Jordan Buschur, Aaron Cantor, Bodie Chewning, Peter Cramer, Philip Crangi, Wong Dowling, Ruth Hai, Derek Jackson, Tamiko Kawata, Laura Paris, Amy Pierce, and Sara Woolley. The exhibit opens Sunday, June 1, 5-7 pm at Le Petit Versailles Garden, 346 East Houston St., NYC.
