Share Your Vision Art Contest
We encourage all Archive Member artists to submit slides and applications to the Share Your Vision art contest. Artists do not need to have CMV retinitis to apply. The most appropriate submissions will address, discuss or represent the artist's understanding of and/or experience with CMV retinitis The exhibition will be at Artists Space and have an accompanying catalogue. There are cash prizes to be won and the jurors are all well-known arts administrators. Our partners at Roche have been very good about keeping this an educational campaign. Selected art works will not be utilized in advertising and will not be represented with mention of Roche's medications for CMV retinitis. Deadline is June 16, 2003. For more information, visit: www.thebody.com/visualaids/share_vision.html.

Fight AIDS, Not Iraq
In March Visual AIDS teamed up with the AIDS advocacy team at Housing Works to produce a postcard piece that compared the money spent bombing Iraq with the cost of providing services to people living with HIV/AIDS. For more information about Housing Works AIDS advocacy work you can contact Terri at: smith-caronia@housingworks.org or 212-645-8111. The Housing Works Web site is also a great source of info about AIDS activism.

Visual AIDS Board News: Hello & Goodbye
Visual AIDS welcomes two new Board Members: AA Bronson and Barton Benes. Internationally acclaimed artist AA Bronson was one of the three members of General Idea (1969-1994), the artists' collaborative that focused entirely on the theme of AIDS from 1987 until the deaths of the two other members in 1994. He was also a founder and director of Art Metropole, the Toronto artist-run center for artists' books, video, audio, multiples and other editions, and he master-minded the Art Metropole Collection of these materials, which now resides at the National Gallery of Canada. He is currently the Treasurer of Printed Matter, New York, and is working on a new Web site about his own work at www.aabronson.com. General Idea Editions: A Selection Exhibition and General Idea: Editions 1967-1995 Catalogue are currently at Printed Matter, Inc. until June 21, 2003. For more information, please visit Printed Matter.
Barton Benes is an internationally acclaimed artist and a long-standing Visual AIDS Archive Member. He now joins the Visual AIDS Board of Directors. Barton received international attention for his work dealing with HIV and AIDS. In 1995 a documentary about Barton and his AIDS work was made for Czech Television. POZ Magazine featured a column by Barton, "Letters from Aunt Evelyn." His recent publication, Curiosa, published by Abrams, has sold out of its first printing. Barton is represented in New York by Lennon Weinberg.
Retiring from the Board of Directors are Stefanie Nagorka and Anne Hutchins-Orsi. Visual AIDS recognizes the great contributions of these two important women who have long been part of the Visual AIDS family. As we say farewell, we thank you both for all that you have done to make Visual AIDS the organization it is today and will work to continue and further our mission and programs guided by your examples of selfless generosity. We would also like to say congratulations to Stefanie Nagorka, who was recently interviewed on NPR.
The Visual AIDS Board includes: Geoffrey Hendricks, President; Paul Gunther, Vice-President; Sur Rodney (Sur), Secretary; Barbara Hunt, Treasurer; Howard Grossman, Barton Benes, AA Bronson and Anne Hutchins-Orsi, Director Emeritus.

Let Visual AIDS Help
- Your Resource Library
In addition to the quarterly newsletters, Visual AIDS keeps an ongoing list of residency, grant, and exhibition opportunities. Please contact us if you are doing research or need help.
- Shoot your own slides
Visual AIDS still has plenty of daylight slide film. If you have a camera or a friend who can shoot your work, let us know and we can send out the film to you and cover the processing fees. If you have any questions on using daylight slide film, please feel free to speak to Nelson.
- Computer Station
Visual AIDS has a third computer station available for use by all Archive Member artists. You can use the computer to work on resumes, applications, scan slides, search the internet, etc. Call us to schedule an appointment.
- Studio Visits
We would love to see your work in person! If you are within traveling distance (sorry, no planes), we would be happy to arrange a visit to your home or studio to view your work and discuss what you are up to. Call Nelson to schedule appointments.
- Letter of Recommendation
Visual AIDS is also a resource for its Archive Member artists who are applying for schooling, residencies, and/or grants. Let us know if we can write you a letter of recommendation.
- Workshops
What do you need to know? We have contacts with different arts professionals and would like to set up a series of workshops out of the Visual AIDS office. Please let us know what you would like to know and when would be a good time for you to attend (weekends, evenings, mornings, etc.). Possible topics include: representing your artwork to galleries and art centers; grants and residencies; legal advice for artists; estate planning; photo-documentation/shooting slides. These are to benefit Archive Member artists. Please let us know if these would be of use to you or if there are other workshop topics that you would like to see.

News From Inside 510
With the Share Your Vision contest, A Big Hairy Deal Benefit, the upcoming Postcards From the Edge Benefit, growing Archive Membership, and other projects, this will be a busy summer of love at Visual AIDS. Amy went home in April to visit with her family in Southern California and especially to meet her new nephew -- the lovely baby Cooper. Beware if you stop by the office as Amy is an obnoxious first time auntie and will force you into cooing over baby pixs. Nelson also returned home to California in May, but on a sadder note. He thanks everyone for their kindness and sympathy on the passing of his aunt and grandmother. If you are in Chelsea checking out art shows or planning a summer visit to NYC, please stop by the office to catch up with us. And don't forget to call or write -- to let us know how you are doing.
Love to all from Amy "Aims" Sadao and "Nellie" Nelson Santos.
