Postcards From The Edge -- October 28, 2002
Postcards From The Edge
The 5th Annual Postcards From The Edge benefit was a tremendous success. Hosted by Sperone Westwater Gallery in the Meatpacking District, Visual AIDS displayed over 1,150 postcards and sold over 700. This was the most successful event Visual AIDS has ever held and raised close to $30,000. Thanks to all the Archive Members who volunteered: David Abbott, Bradford Branch, Max Greenberg, Derek Jackson, David Krueger, John Morrison, David Nelson, Luna Luis Ortiz, Eric Rhein, Daniel Roberts, Ron Singleton, Clifford Smith, Tom Teebe, Christopher Trujillo, Wilmer Velez and Frederick Weston. Also thank you to all the Archive Member artists who donated postcards, we couldn't have done it without your support and participation!

Materials Grants

In July we distributed 22 Harvest Materials Grants. Through the generosity of our friends at Golden Artists Colors, Utrecht, Gamblin, and Winston Newton, artists received oil paint, acrylic paints, medium, and paper. We hope to continue this redistribution program next year. Beginning this December, Materials Grants will be disbursed bi-annually in May and December. The Materials Grants program is to help low-income Archive Member artists acquire art materials. Priority is given to artists who have not received Material Grants in the past. Please contact the office if you wish to receive a Grant Application.

Benefiting Visual AIDS

We thank John Melick for "donating" his birthday party at Red Dot Gallery on October 17, 2002. Instead of birthday gifts, John asked his guests to donate $36 in honor of his birthday raised and over $1300 for Visual AIDS.
