gastrointestinal problems from ratonavir and saquinavir combo

Question:

Dr's, I am having terrible gastrointestinal problems with, the ratonavir and saquinavir combination I am taking. My major complaints are stomach cramps and extreme flatulence. I am taking three physyme capsules daily and cannot keep up with the problem. I look very pregnant. Is there an oral medication more effective I could take or perhaps a special diet? I cannot wear any of my clothes and it has created a major problem for me. Did you hear anything about how to ease the side effects at the conference? I'll take any suggestion you might have to offer. Thanks Terry

Dr. Torres' Response:

It sounds like the gastrointestinal side effects of this combination are intolerable; I would recommend using the lowest recommended dose of both drugs (400 mg twice daily) if the gi problems persist you should strongly consider another combination regimen.
