increasing liver enzymes under d4T and Ritonavir/Saquinavir

Question:

Since we have changed my treatment regime and added d4T and Ritonavir (to Saquinavir and ddI), my liver enzymes, formerly normal, rise to yGT 170, GPT 80, GOT40, AP also slightly elevated. Tendency is still slowly increasing. Do You think, that Ritonavir/Saquinavir or d4T induces these liver enzymes? Thank you for an answer! Alexander Loschmann/Germany

Dr. Torres' Response:

Of the drugs you are on both saquinavir and ritonavir can cause elevation in liver function tests; you must follow the LFTs closely and it is usually is recommended that the drugs be interrupted if they rise five times above the limit of normal (in the case of transaminases this is usually around 200 units/ml).
