Question:Taking Saquinavir since 15 months in escalating doses, I am suffering from diarrheas since 12 months, resistant to Lactase preparations. All other medications have been changed since 1 Year the only one I continue is Saquinavir, in the meantime 2 x 400 mg together with 2 x 600 mg Ritonavir and with d4T and ddI. I dont want to stop Saqinavir, since in this 4fold combination I got a negative Viral load (>200 copies/formerly 1 Million) and CD4 cell between 500 and 600 (32%/formerly 110 cells)). Do You know something about the pathogenesis of diarrheas under Saquinavir and how to avoid them? With best thanks for time and maybe help! Alexander Loschmann/GermanyDr. Torres' Response:You are presently taking several medications that can cause diarrhea, including Invirase, Norvir and ddI. In order to be certain that the Invirase is the sole cause of your diarrhea you would need to interrupt each drug at a time and not if it makes a difference in the frequency and caliber of your bowel movements. In order to do this you should consult with your doctor.Ramon Torres, MD |
