Norvir (Ritonavir)

The Details

Norvir (ritonavir or RTV) is a protease inhibitor used to treat HIV/AIDS. It is approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of HIV infection in adults and children older than age 1 month. It is listed in the DHHS HIV treatment guidelines as part of a preferred regimen for people starting HIV treatment for the first time, when taken in combinatiion with Reyataz and Truvada, or in combination with Prezista and Truvada.

Isentress

Adult single dose: Take six tablets twice daily. Each tablet contains 100 mg of ritonavir; start with three tablets twice daily and increase at 2 to 3 day intervals by 100 mg twice daily.

Restrictions:

  • Take whole with meals. Do not chew.
  • Always take Norvir in combination with other anti-HIV medicines.
  • Women should not breastfeed while on Norvir.
