Katherine Luzuriaga, M.D.

Katherine Luzuriaga, M.D.
Katherine Luzuriaga, M.D., has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Research Scholar Award from the Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Elizabeth Glaser Scientist Award from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Among her numerous appointments at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, she is chief of the Division of Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology in the Department of Pediatrics, and chair of the Child Neurology Division Chief Search Committee.

A resident of the New England area, Dr. Luzuriaga received her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in pediatrics at the Boston Floating Hospital for Infants and Children of Tufts-New England Medical Center and her post-graduate training with a research fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where she now holds an associate professorship in Pediatrics. She is board-certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Luzuriaga is a longstanding member of several of the National Institutes of Health's Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Groups, for which she has chaired the Primary Therapy Research Agenda Committee. She is also serving on the Pediatric AIDS Foundation's Children's Research Fund Advisory Committee. Among her numerous professional affiliations, she is a member of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society and the American Association of Immunologists.

Dr. Luzuriaga has worked tirelessly as a principal investigator on numerous research grants throughout her career. Among her current projects are studies with the National Institutes of Health and the Pediatric AIDS Foundation on vertical HIV infection. She has been invited to give lectures nationwide and has authored and co-authored many articles, editorials and book chapters.

Dr. Luzuriaga has received grant funding from NIH, Elizabeth Glaser, PAF and Boehringer Ingelheim and has consulted on behalf of Boehringer Ingelheim, Agouron and Glaxo-Wellcome.
