Recently, researchers found that a simple blood test can identify patients who might develop the abacavir hypersensitivity reaction. The blood test looks for the HLA-B*5701 gene. Data to date hasn't implicated Ziagen with cardiac problems. There have been some reports of cardiomyopathy possibly associated with nucleoside agents so further evaluation and discussion with your HIV doc are a good idea. KH... Read more »
