Lymphocytes are expressed as a percent of the total white blood cell count. "Absolute" counts mean that the percent has been converted to a number. They both refer to different ways of describing the same thing.... Read more »

During acute HIV infection, the most likely abnormality is a low lymphocyte count. Sometimes abnormal-looking lymphocytes can be seen. If you did a lymphocyte subset test, you would see that the CD4 (T4, helper cell) cells were low.... Read more »
