There are several microbicide trials ongoing. How long it will take in your opinion to have a valid alternative to condoms? There were results published in this days about the PRO 2000 candidate which shows a 30% efficacy in prevention.

Microbicide delay for greater vaccine test pool? (MICROBICIDES, 2009)

I recently heard a Policy Director of an ASO say that introduction of microbocides to the public will be delayed because the use of microbicides would mean fewer trial patients for a vaccine. Is this really true?
