I understand that a 6 month window period is recommended for HIV testing. I realize also that the majority of people will be positive by 3 months from last exposure.Testing at 6 months is almost 100% reliable. Okay, my question is this...how soon...

This field is still collecting data. It is very hard to find these patients and follow them with serial antibody tests. Antibody tests have been reported to be positive within 4 weeks. My guesstimate would be that 80-90% and 95-98% would be antibody... Read more »

Children & CD4 percentage

We have adopted a boy which tested HIV positive. He is now 3 years and 6 months. His CD4 was 410 and VL 13570 in Oct 2008. In Febr 2009 his CD4 is 719 and VL 35305. I don't know if the CD percentage is important but the dr did not give it to...

In very young children the CD4% may be a better marker to follow. At 4 years, it is reasonable to have both the absolute count and CD4% to follow over time.... Read more »

Please Calm down, A test at 4 weeks is about 95% accurate and in sweden and the study done in sweden shows 99.9% accurate at 8 weeks and 99.9 or 99.99% is the best to give. I personally dont understand why it should be a big diffrence in people... Read more »
