You are right to say that some people who are severely immunosuppressed (as you may be) can have a false negative HIV antibody test. In that setting, the best test to determine infection becomes a PCR test, or some other antigen detection assay....

Is there any way to get a test for HIV itself, rather than just the virus? I know it costs alot more but would there be any doctor's willing to perform this test, rather than wait the agonizing three months for a regular HIV antibody test result.
