Dr,I have just tested HIV+ and also found out I have "full-blown AIDS" Viral load 236,000 and CD4 count of 130. I have no symptoms with the exception of what my doctor has diagnosed as THRUSH. The back 2/3 of my tongue is completely...

A white to yellowish coating on the back 2/3 of the tongue, does not necessarily mean you have thrush (candidiasis). Just because you have AIDS and have recently been on an antibiotic does not necessarily mean that you have candidiasis. If there are... Read more »

Thrush - TMP/SMX

Hello and thanks for posting. After the treatments that you've had, I'd find it pretty unusual that your thrush hasn't improved. I have to wonder if you really had oral candidiasis (thrush) or simply had a white coating on your tongue... Read more »

thrush not treated

what problems can occur if thrush is not treated? I'm constantly challenged with thrush, even after I get treated with Difucan and Clotrimazole. Does it affect other systems in the body?...

Response from Judith Feinberg, M.D.

If thrush is not treated, it can extend into the esophagus and cause candida infection there. Candida esophagitis can be severe enough to make it difficult to swallow and can result in significant weight loss. One reason that your thrush keeps... Read more »

Night sweats/thrush questions

Is it true that night sweats are a concern only if they are soaking sweats to the point of needing to change sleepwear or bedding? A little moisture on the back of the neck or on the chest in the middle of the night probably would not qualify if... Read more »
