I had been sharing my toothbrush and razor blade with a house-mate of mine and i recently susect that he might be HIV+ and at times i do bleed after shaving. Please tell me what are my chance of contracting AIDS if he is really a carrier?Thank you...

Do not share your toothbrush or razor with anyone. Hepatitis and other infections can be spread this way, as well as HIV. Don't take any dumb chances. And if you're really worried, I suggest you get tested for HIV, hepatitis B & C,... Read more »

Even if your roomate is infected with HIV, it is highly unlikely that HIV would be transmitted to you by sharing a razor. Transmission through sharing a razor is not a likely event; there is no actual evidence that HIV has been transmitted this way.... Read more »

Razor risk?

I know it is said that sharing razors is not advised. Well, my sister is a dentist and sometimes leaves her razor in our shower stall while visiting. My kids at times play in the shower and I worry about "if" they played with her razor...

I would not consider any risk in this potential exposure at all. Your sister has been tested and her risk of getting hepatitis C is low in the first place. Although we always tell people not to share razors, this route is felt to be a very low risk... Read more »

My mom had hepatitis c sheet and I shared razors for years could I have gotten? I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but have always felt there is more to my illness then that could it be hepatitis c from using the same razor as her for years?...

Hepatitis C infection is spread by blood that contains hepatitis C. It is possible that hepatitis C may be spread by sharing razors with someone who has hepatitis C, although the risk is low, and there are higher risk ways of spreading hepatitis... Read more »
